<span class="s1">This module has been one of my most enjoyable modules to date on this course. It has been really engaging with current campaigns and movements, which is something I really love to work with as it feels as though you are making a difference within the world, or have potential to. However, both studio briefs have been very challenging due to there only being two studio briefs in the module, meaning the body of work had to be a lot more researched and explained than most briefs. I think this has been very beneficial for myself as a designer, however, as from now on I am going to try to tackle every brief in a similar way.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">My attendance for this module has been around 80%. This mainly at the beginning of the project as I was falling behind in other modules that were due in before this, and therefore I put them first. This is due to my poor time management, however for the second brief I managed to turn this around and ended up with loads of time to explore lots of different pathways for the campaign.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I really enjoyed taking part in the study tasks and I believe they really helped me engage in the project as they were relevant and thought-provoking. I also really enjoyed attending the workshop held by Intern Magazine, as this is a magazine I have been following for a while and it was really interesting to find out first-hand about the concept of the publication. This was also really inspiring as I enjoy publication design and it is something I would love to explore even further in third year.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I think a success of this module was definitely pushing myself to analogue print some of my outcomes. I often don’t create outcomes that are fit to be printed in this method, however for this module the first brief required it as a deliverable, and it influenced me to screen print for the second brief as well.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Another success of this module was the concept-driven projects. I find it a lot easier and more engaging to work with a project that has a really strong concept, which is why I took a lot of time out to thoroughly research each brief and make sure the concept was as strong as it could possibly be. In turn, this definitely helped with my final deliverables as they are a lot stronger than they would’ve been without a strong concept.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">A weakness of this module was my organisation for studio brief one, as at the beginning of the module I had a lot of other modules to catch up on. This was also a weakness due to the fact if I had spent more time on the project at the beginning, I might’ve had more time to book a tutorial and learn a new printing technique. However, I did manage to catch up by the second studio brief, and I planned well ahead and booked print slots and got a screen stripped and ready prior to having a solid design for it. This is something I will definitely take forward into third year, as it was really reassuring knowing that everything was ready to go as soon as the designs were ready. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<br />
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Overall, this module has not only helped me to produce really strong concepts and projects, it has also been very interesting due to the fact that I have been able to research into projects that I actually care about. It has also been very challenging to try to get a concept across about an opinionated campaign, but trying to avoid causing uproar, however I believe I achieved this through my designs. If I were to have more time on this project, it would’ve been really interesting to put more time into studio brief two and to put the smoothies into an actual shop and see if anyone would pick them up and read the miniature publication attached. It would’ve also been interesting to brand a pop up shop or cafe that would go along with the project, as in the research I found out that this is how Innocent became a developed brand.</span></div>

<span class="s1">This project went really successfully and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every aspect. This was due to the freedom of the brief. The brief was very vague, and therefore I was able to interpret it in a way that really appealed and interested me. I decided to base the brief on the Save the Bees campaign, which is a campaign I closely follow and really care about. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I’m really happy with each product that I have created for this project. I spent a lot of time and energy trying to get the perfect outcomes and I think it really shows. My personal favourite outcome is definitely the logo design and packaging, as I believe they compliment each other really well and they are very consistent, as is the rest of the project.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">The part of this project that I really struggled with was picking a specific topic at the beginning of the brief. As it was such a vague brief, there were so many different paths that could’ve been taking and it stumped me as to which direction I should take my project. However, once I had an idea and had committed to that idea, I really enjoyed undertaking this project. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">I really enjoyed the analogue side to this project, and upon reflection I wish I had taken it further. Myself and screen printing have a love and hate relationship, however for this project it went very well and I am extremely pleased with the t-shirts that I created. Another part of this project that I really enjoyed was the logo design as I found it really challenging. This is something that I definitely want to explore further in third year, as I enjoy keeping things simple even though it can be very challenging at times.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">A part of this project I didn’t enjoy was creating a website. I’m not a huge fan of design for screen as I find it very difficult and confusing, however I don’t think my project would be as strong without a website, as there wouldn’t be any more information available about the saving the bees concept.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<br />
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Overall, this project was really enjoyable. If I had more time, I would’ve liked to create posters and leaflets that would’ve been screen printed. I would’ve also tried screen printing the packaging design onto acetate with white ink, as this is something that would’ve made my project a lot stronger.</span></div>

<br />
The target audience for this brief was a very wide demographic. Feedback originally suggested that the demographic should be people who enjoy gardening, however the concept of the brief changed after this feedback. The target audience for the brief was, instead, aimed at people who enjoy eating healthily. There wasn't an age limit on this due to healthy eaters varying in ages.<br />
<br />
The style of design was influenced by modernist design, as the packaging, logo design and other products were very focused on negative space, which symbolised the depletion of the bee population; the body copy represented the bees, whereas the negative space represented the bees that have already disappeared. The design was kept clean, minimal and almost scientific, which represented the fact that the bees have depleted in numbers due to chemicals and pesticides used on plants.<br />
<br />
The stock chosen was also chosen very carefully. The stock for the publications was recycled paper, as this is environmentally friendly and therefore in favour of the cause and campaign. It's consistent. The plastic bottle chosen for the packaging is also consistent with this as it is 100% recyclable plastic.<br />
<br />
Distribution.<br />
<br />
The publications created for this project have been digitally printed and use CMYK colours, which means that the publications could be printed inexpensively using a lithoprinter.<br />
<br />
The packaging design is limited to the use of black. This means it would be very cost effective and could also be printed with a lithoprinter. It could also be screen printed, which would make it even more inexpensive.<br />
<br />
The products could easily be distributed because of these print methods.<br />
<br />
The LookBook publication would be a free zine and would be available and health food stores such as Holland & Barrett and Waitrose. It would also be available to view online on websites such as ISSUU. This would help spread the concept and idea behind the brand inexpensively, and would also create traffic for the website as people would want to find out more about the brand.<br />
<br />
The recipe publication would be for sale on the website, but could also be distributed at retailers such as Urban Outfitters, WH Smiths or Waterstones. The recipe book would be on sale for around £3, of which 40% of the profits would go towards the Save The Bees Campaign.<br />
<br />
The actual product could be distributed everywhere, whether it's supermarkets such as Asda, Sainsbury's or Tesco, or health food shops such as Holland and Barrett. It could even be sold in retailers such as Boots, as they often promote a healthy life style and have a whole food section for meal deals and such.<br />
<br />
All of the products could be promoted through the use of social media, and also by contacting the campaigns and asking for their promotion. Using the internet to promote the product could also be very useful, as it would bring more traffic to the website. The website could have adverts on, which could then raise more money towards the cause.<br />

This is a LookBook publication created from the photographs taken of the screen printed t-shirt. Posting this publication online would, in theory, bring more traffic to the website, and result in more customers. It could also be printed out and given out for free at places like Colours May Vary and Village Book Store in Leeds. The colour scheme and use of block colour is consistent to both the packaging and the website. The black and white images aim to keep the publication looking consitent and classy, whereas the colour aims to keep the excitement and entice the viewer.</div>

<b>Audience:</b> 20-40 male or female.<br />
<b>Aesthetic:</b> Colour scheme is black and white, however it will be added to depending on the imagery on the front cover or that specific page.<br />
<b>Strategy:</b> Arch<br />
<b>Lifespan:</b> It will keep going until it is not needed anymore, 4 issues per year - 1 every 3 months.<br />
<br />
Within our group, we decided to each design a front cover for the magazine, and then got back together to choose the best one. My wasn't chosen, but I have attached the image below, along with a double page spread that I created.<br />

For this study task, we were asked to get into groups of three and produce a campaign to encourage more people to vote. Florence, Izzie and myself all have similar political views, this view being that we really dislike the Tories. We looked into different campaigns for other political parties which can be seen below.</div>

We then started designing. We gave Izzie the job of creating the stickers that would be smartly placed to draw the most attention. Florence had the job of creating the leaflets that would be placed somewhere nearby the stickers so that people could find out more about the campaign. I had the job of creating a website. Below are the website mock ups that I created.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The website would be useful for documenting the movements of the campaign, finding out further information and would be a place to buy stickers and signage that would further promote the campaign.</div>

Our campaign aims to let its interacts have an open mind on who to vote, however just to not vote the Tories. The interactive nature and the placement appeals to a younger audience, while encouraging them to find out more information on other parties that aren’t the Tories, so forth, engaging young people in politics. </span></div>

For this study task, we were asked to create a leaflet and flyer for the exhibition 'Disobedient Objects North' which was help in the People's History Museum in Manchester last year. Below is the leaflet that I created. I created the typeface by hand to match with the typeface on the sign in the image that I decided to use. as body copy I used Helvetica as it worked nicely with the title typeface.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KScayHwAqSU/VzzXUV5W3SI/AAAAAAAAEKA/oEVn9Wb9CDc9uRQ9MYsWRVEo3OpYu4tOQCLcB/s1600/flyer1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KScayHwAqSU/VzzXUV5W3SI/AAAAAAAAEKA/oEVn9Wb9CDc9uRQ9MYsWRVEo3OpYu4tOQCLcB/s320/flyer1.png" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then created a leaflet in the same style. I stuck to black and white imagery as it would be the most cost effective method of printing and means that the leaflet could be printed twice as many times for half the price. It also showed off the images really well in black and white.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_16NXaM0vhA/VzzYB7NdYBI/AAAAAAAAEKQ/Mmne2lKc2hw0Qkoo5cVbI6rqUx84khqXgCLcB/s1600/LEAFLET-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="91" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_16NXaM0vhA/VzzYB7NdYBI/AAAAAAAAEKQ/Mmne2lKc2hw0Qkoo5cVbI6rqUx84khqXgCLcB/s320/LEAFLET-1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JWM88Wkdp_g/VzzYBgEbJ9I/AAAAAAAAEKM/jAyQPIEzbNs46iyKrNW5m0ydlVQfSe7dQCLcB/s1600/LEAFLET-2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="92" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JWM88Wkdp_g/VzzYBgEbJ9I/AAAAAAAAEKM/jAyQPIEzbNs46iyKrNW5m0ydlVQfSe7dQCLcB/s320/LEAFLET-2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then developed this brief further by creating an invitation card to the opening night in the same style. The same main image has been used consistently through-out to keep each material constant and fluent.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6so0PTePzKo/VzzXT3zX09I/AAAAAAAAEJ0/3rIkJYkZKDAdQmn63ijwuw9agTNe1A3jACLcB/s1600/invite.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6so0PTePzKo/VzzXT3zX09I/AAAAAAAAEJ0/3rIkJYkZKDAdQmn63ijwuw9agTNe1A3jACLcB/s320/invite.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, I created two different ticket styles for the event. The first design is the preferred design as it is left-alligned, and therefore is consistent with the leaflet, flyer and invitation.</div>

This didn't take a lot of time at all due to the fact that most of the content and images used were found online. I decided to do this as I don't have enough time to write my own content and take my own photographs due to the fact I don't know any original smoothie recipes.<br />
<br />
The publication is kept consistent through the use of typeface, colour and focus on negative space. It's also kept consistent due to the use of type that is sideways, which would make the recipe book more interesting and engaging.<br />

Whilst designing this publication, I had the idea to create a very mini book that would be attached to each bottle, involving the concept and ethics of the company. This way, a lot more people will know that they are saving the bees without having to visit the smoothies website, as a lot of customers probably wouldn't bother.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the design that I came up with. It's very simple and focuses on negative space, and it uses short, snappy sentences to engage the reader. I think putting this on the packaging where people could read it whilst browsing the shelf would definitely make the product sell more due to its good nature.</div>

Having looked briefly at some of the products available from the smoothie company Innocent, I think it would be really interesting to create a recipe book about how to make some other smoothies that aren't on offer from the shop. This would also increase the money spent on StingSmoothies and would therefore increase the amount donated to the Save The Bees campaign, which is the main aim of the brand. To begin this, I decided to look at a publication called Fruit Infused Water by Susan Marque. I found this online as ISSUU and it looked really interesting from the front cover due to the use of bright colours, however the actual body copy in the publication is poorly laid out and doesn't work very well on ISSUU - this is probably because it wasn't originally intended for ISSUU, however. </div>

As Recipe books usually use a lot of imagery, I thought it would be useful to look into a publication called Crepe City. This is a new publication that is very image based and the layout is very well considered. Each image sits really well next to surrounding images. Their use of typography is also very successful as the background colour and type colour is very contrasting and typeset very well. </div>

La Carta is a recipe book by Julian Jaramillo Balbin. The publication is printed on a chalk-board like stock and uses foiled type on the front cover. It's a very well considered recipe book, as it is informed by families writing recipes and notes on blackboards in kitchens. Stock is something that I should definitely consider for my own publication, as it should be informed by my concept. For this, I think it would be beneficial to use recycled stock.<br />

Firstly, I have decided to include a competition on the start of the homepage, which means I will have to create something that could be given away. For this, I am thinking of creating a t-shirt design with the stingsmoothies logo on. This will be quite easy to do, and would also get a lot of people involved in the project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first website flat I created can be seen below. The layout of this was successful, however I think the use of the icon logo was unsuccessful, however it did give me an idea for the enter page of the website, this can be seen below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z79FwoM9fss/Vzyak7roDvI/AAAAAAAAEE8/T76xjs1Sn10fMSADhhMj9kJnDxwYOBnSACLcB/s1600/web3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z79FwoM9fss/Vzyak7roDvI/AAAAAAAAEE8/T76xjs1Sn10fMSADhhMj9kJnDxwYOBnSACLcB/s320/web3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the gif idea I had from the previous website flat. The pollen particle icon would move away from the mouse. This incorporates my icon logo design into the website and means that I don't have to use it once the website has been entered. This is very helpful, as I was really struggling to position the icon anywhere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aGsidpoBVGY/VzzHQKtm9AI/AAAAAAAAEGQ/aJ6Dl8U_SGw0szuKHGzP_733Y18nf-44ACLcB/s1600/gif.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aGsidpoBVGY/VzzHQKtm9AI/AAAAAAAAEGQ/aJ6Dl8U_SGw0szuKHGzP_733Y18nf-44ACLcB/s320/gif.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the next website flat that I have created. I think it's a lot more successful as the use of colour is limited, however the website is still very bright and eye catching. This is the website that I am going to develop further and create more pages for. I have used an image taken off the internet as the main competition photograph, however I will edit this once I have taken some photographs of my own of the t-shirt that I will create. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qks_ivu9Oos/Vzyak8yH8nI/AAAAAAAAEE4/kKypnWiLgEIyJ_9DETHWj1LzlnTqk_eSACLcB/s1600/web4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qks_ivu9Oos/Vzyak8yH8nI/AAAAAAAAEE4/kKypnWiLgEIyJ_9DETHWj1LzlnTqk_eSACLcB/s320/web4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the next webpage that I have created for the products tab. I think it's really successful and uses my own images as links that would then lead to a next page. The image still uses the same grid as the previous page, which makes it consistent.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xTXMeiZSuto/VzzAHwsLiOI/AAAAAAAAEFY/zyQ7RyijGscvhLSpwlQuziCaBADQga9LwCLcB/s1600/product%2B1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xTXMeiZSuto/VzzAHwsLiOI/AAAAAAAAEFY/zyQ7RyijGscvhLSpwlQuziCaBADQga9LwCLcB/s320/product%2B1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Below is a gif of how the hover button would work. When the mouse is hovering over a bottle, the image would change to a bottle filled with the smoothie. This adds an element of interaction and I think makes the website a lot more engaging.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the page that would pop up once the bottle was clicked. It is a pretty simple page and would explain the ingredients in the smoothie and all of the nutrition information of the smoothie, as this is something that a lot of websites lack, yet I know a lot of people would like to know if there is anything else in the smoothie other than fruit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5uUaLL8vvjA/VzzFhOTRfiI/AAAAAAAAEFo/5afX8ytGjrAfeydAYQUd0dLn-3i0vg8KACLcB/s1600/product2%2B%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5uUaLL8vvjA/VzzFhOTRfiI/AAAAAAAAEFo/5afX8ytGjrAfeydAYQUd0dLn-3i0vg8KACLcB/s320/product2%2B%25282%2529.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next page is an explanation of the concept of the brand. Each page has used a single block of colour to add more excitement, and this page is no exception. The colour makes the text more engaging, and this is important due to the fact that this is where people will find out that the company would actually be helping to save the bees.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zUJFvFUqsNw/VzzF00UgblI/AAAAAAAAEFs/1YRCJkX01DIpRX_64DBqWMD5tvtdmXLxwCLcB/s1600/ourstory%2B%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zUJFvFUqsNw/VzzF00UgblI/AAAAAAAAEFs/1YRCJkX01DIpRX_64DBqWMD5tvtdmXLxwCLcB/s320/ourstory%2B%25282%2529.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, this is the last page of the website. This page is a lot more minimal due to the lack of content, however again the block of colour has been used to get rid of some of the negative space, and also to keep the website engaging.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Esswuh48OH8/VzzGJt-U7mI/AAAAAAAAEF0/nlCLdkQ3_CY6yuKOrxp1H8rKkFfjCO_vgCLcB/s1600/contact%2B%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Esswuh48OH8/VzzGJt-U7mI/AAAAAAAAEF0/nlCLdkQ3_CY6yuKOrxp1H8rKkFfjCO_vgCLcB/s320/contact%2B%25282%2529.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Personally, I'm really fond of my website design and I will just need to go back and change the image once I have screen printed a t-shirt and taken my own photographs.</div>
Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5470514591380246677.post-49837121884328105782016-04-16T12:59:00.000-07:002016-05-18T12:37:31.298-07:00OUGD505 Product Range Distribution - Development, Wireframes (Studio Brief Two)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These wireframes were created so that I don't waste too much time trying lots of different website layouts. Wireframes are really useful, as you get a rough idea of how the website would look without actually adding any content. This first website flat is unsuccessful in my opinion, as it would be very text-heavy and not very interesting or eye catching to look at due to this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--dodYp-1xsg/VzxQFHxmlzI/AAAAAAAAEEM/v0_joK2g9yg6yco0sWHL-tS8LV5gKc4KACLcB/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--dodYp-1xsg/VzxQFHxmlzI/AAAAAAAAEEM/v0_joK2g9yg6yco0sWHL-tS8LV5gKc4KACLcB/s320/1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the next wireframe that I created. This style could definitely be successful due to the minimal, each to follow layout and it would also look neat, however this doesn't really fit with the design on my packaging, and I want to focus on a lot more negative space.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9ZaVXTq1_qo/VzxQFehoKYI/AAAAAAAAEEQ/sCp8NSJmsiMUOcZw0BG-bOHLvR75YY2FQCLcB/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9ZaVXTq1_qo/VzxQFehoKYI/AAAAAAAAEEQ/sCp8NSJmsiMUOcZw0BG-bOHLvR75YY2FQCLcB/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't think this website layout would be successful because I think the first page of the website should definitely have some content on instead of just an image, especially as the brand wouldn't be recognisable at the time of this site going live. It would need to be a lot more informative from the get go.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gaX2IPP1_JA/VzxQFdngHFI/AAAAAAAAEEU/THEKj7C6nzQB7iEzj8-evTGTTudpG4YPwCLcB/s1600/3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gaX2IPP1_JA/VzxQFdngHFI/AAAAAAAAEEU/THEKj7C6nzQB7iEzj8-evTGTTudpG4YPwCLcB/s320/3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This website layout could be successful due to the easy navigation and the brand would be easily recognised straight away, however I still think the site could do with a lot more negative space due to the design of my packaging. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i6Cney3Rvv8/VzxQFrAPxTI/AAAAAAAAEEY/nTAvw7xGU9Qlt92eX3ij38r-f_9NlaAaACLcB/s1600/4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i6Cney3Rvv8/VzxQFrAPxTI/AAAAAAAAEEY/nTAvw7xGU9Qlt92eX3ij38r-f_9NlaAaACLcB/s320/4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the final wireframe that I have designed. I definitely think that this is the most successful design as it includes the name of the brand and would also engage the viewer straight away due to the competition on the front. It would also have clear links to social media and the navigation bar would be minimal. I may change the navigation when I come to design the real thing due to the fact I want it to be incredibly simple to navigate.</div>
<br />

Having already looked at the websites for the campaign, the next step is to look into smoothie and juice websites to get a rough idea of what makes that specific kind of website successful. Innocent has an interesting website as it is a very crowded website that doesn't leave any negative space, something that was unexpected due to the negative space usage on the packaging. The website is engaging, however, as it has quizzes about fruit and a lot of information and events going on within the company. This is useful for the brand, as it would bring more traffic to the website, specifically a younger demographic for the quizzes and an older demographic for the information. The website is very easy to navigate, however isn't very aesthetically appealing due to the lack of negative space.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This website is a lot more successful than Innocent as it uses very bold imagery and it's very eye catching. Again, this website is very easy to navigate due to the navigation being at the top of the screen at all times. This website isn't as interactive as Innocent, however, which could definitely decrease the traffic to the website. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the website for Copella. The website is unsuccessful as it isn't very eye catching, and is actually quite an eyesore due to the use of block colour contrasted with imagery. The website is easy to navigate, however some of the links, for example social networking links, aren't very attractive due to the colour change once the mouse is hovering. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the most appealing website so far. It is bright, bold and the navigation bar is a pop up bar, meaning the website looks a lot cleaner at all times. The use of colour is successful as it is very natural and consistent with the packaging of this brand. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, below is the website for Rubicon. It's a successful website, however the website is lacking in content. There isn't much reason to visit the website, therefore mustn't get much traffic. The navigation bar is successful as it is quite hidden and doesn't distract from the bold imagery, however the pop up navigation isn't aesthetically pleasing due to the use of a gradient, and the typeface used isn't very legible. </div>

Below are the mock ups created to show what the bottle would look like once the packaging had been printed onto it. Ideally I would like the packaging to be printed in white ink, however we are yet to have a white ink printer at uni, so I will have to stick to using black ink. The labels will be printed onto either acetate or clear stickers (i'm unsure if uni offers this printing method as of yet). </div>

Overall, I'm really happy with my packaging. I think it's really successful and it has the subtle element that only fruits pollinated by bees have been used in the ingredients, through the use of the logo design, but also through the information on the back of the packaging - it says 'created by bees'.Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5470514591380246677.post-22325567316174992462016-04-13T11:14:00.002-07:002016-04-13T11:26:11.285-07:00OUGD503 Individual & Collaborative Practice, Module Evaluation (Studio Brief One, Two & Three)<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Overall I think responsive has gone really well and I have got a lot out of it. It has been really interesting seeing how I work without specific deadlines, as I thought that I would be really poor at it, however I surprised myself as I actually kept on top of a lot of the work. A brief that I particularly enjoyed in this module was Secret 7. I have previously taken part in Secret 7 and I really love the idea behind it, and I enjoy creating work that has the potential to be exhibited. It was a really fun brief and very experimental, a side of graphic design that I am enjoying more and more.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Unfortunately, my attendance for the module was quite poor. This was due to the substantial brief for studio brief one, as the project I was working on was on an enormous scale, so I couldn’t bring any of it in to work on in the studio. Upon reflection, I probably should’ve started designing it in the studio rather than at home, as it would’ve forced me to stay in and get it done at every opportunity. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Responsive was a huge amount of work, which is another reason I believe this module was successful, as I completely every brief in time for submission. I think I might’ve spent too much time on certain briefs which is quite disappointing, as if I had managed my time even more, I could’ve taken part in more competitions and briefs. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">A success of this module was definitely the first brief that I took part in, which was the Leeds Christmas Market at Munro House. I enjoyed this brief so much as I really challenged myself, as I set myself the task to summarise my design style in three prints, and I feel as though I definitely achieved this. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Another success was the Brompton Bike brief. I found this brief really challenging and time consuming as there was a huge amount of work to be done and only a couple of months to do it in. I’m also really pleased with my outcome for this project as I feel as though I really pushed myself to achieve the best outcome I could. </span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">A weakness of this project was studio brief two, the collaborative brief. It was mainly a weakness of mine, as it was such a struggle meeting up with my group when everyone was available. This was made more challenging as animation and illustration had responsive on the same day, whereas I didn’t. This made it really difficult to keep up with my group and find out points that had been discussed. However, I did make more of an effort to meet up with my group outside of university than I would’ve if we had the module on the same day.</span></div>
<div class="p2">
<span class="s1"></span><br /></div>
<div class="p1">
<span class="s1">Another weakness of the module was definitely my lack of attendance. I will of missed out on a lot of feedback that could’ve helped me improve my ideas and my project as a whole. I did run my own critiques on my projects when I was working on them, however, so I’m hopeful that I will have a substantial submission.</span></div>

<span class="s1">Overall, I think this module as a whole was really inspiring, as this is what it will be like working in the graphic design industry. I also really enjoyed having options as to which briefs I could participate in. I feel as though I really pushed myself to respond to lots of different types of briefs, which will help me in the future also as I won’t be sticking to one specific kind of brief. I am quite disappointed I couldn’t find a brief that required a publication design, however, as this is something I have become really interested in over the last few months and it would’ve been really interesting to design a publication with a wider purpose. If I were to start this module from the beginning, I would definitely take part in another D&AD brief, as I think the brief was very open for interpretation and, looking back, I would’ve liked to respond individually rather than collaboratively. </span></div>

Prior to mocking up the label onto some bottles, I think it will be useful to have some of my own photographs of the specific bottle design I will be using, and also have some smoothie in as it will make the product look more realistic. To do this, I made a smoothie and went and took out the lighting kit from the photography studio.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The photos that I took are successful and will definitely get the idea across a lot more mocked up than they would without the smoothie and specific bottle. </div>

However, I am going to make the tweaks suggested and use the grid more. Below is both the altered packaging and the grid I used. It's a lot more successful as it is consistent and flows really well, and I think it will flow when around a bottle too. I want to see what it looks like prior to printing to make sure it is perfect, so I am going to mock it up using Photoshop.<br />

Today I asked people for their opinions on my packaging designs and how I could improve on them. I also created a small guide as to the colours that would be inside the bottles and asked for feedback on the colour scheme of my packaging, or if I should just keep it black and white.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BvpL5YedShw/VzuJ3ZUJ-3I/AAAAAAAAECU/4B2usKoktPwzyv5fx-Ulf382gzWC1k98QCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-05-17%2Bat%2B22.14.38.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="292" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BvpL5YedShw/VzuJ3ZUJ-3I/AAAAAAAAECU/4B2usKoktPwzyv5fx-Ulf382gzWC1k98QCLcB/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2016-05-17%2Bat%2B22.14.38.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. I really like the bottom left design. It uses the space really well and it would be very clear to see what was inside the packaging. And the colour scheme should be white because it would make the smoothie stand out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. I like the bottom middle design because it would be like drinking from the pollen when the packaging was wrapped around and I think that's really clever. I agree with ^ on the colour scheme, or black.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. I like the middle right design. I think it looks a lot more effective with the bigger logo design, however I'd alter the grid so that the brand name ends as the body copy starts. I think keep it black and white if you're printing onto acetate/clear stickers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. I agree ^</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. I like both the bottom left and middle right. Maybe experiment with colour but black and white will be effective too. </div>
<br />Amelia Bramwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15140155371811597909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5470514591380246677.post-4178662344514458072016-04-10T12:38:00.000-07:002016-05-17T14:09:54.622-07:00OUGD505 Product Range Distribution - Development, Label Layouts (Studio Brief Two)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For now, the packaging will be designed in black and white as a colour scheme has still not been chosen, and in fact the design might be more successful without the use of colour as it would make the smoothies really stand out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I began by measuring the width and height of the label already on the SmartWater bottle. This was 131x147mm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think this design worked really well, however the information on the back of the packaging should start at the same place as the logo, something I have only just realised once the design has been saved without the grid. I think their is far too much negative space in the centre of the logo design for this to be successful, as it looks like the space isn't being used well and it looks very text heavy and empty on other places.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sw3fgyWBN7E/VzsxHAn-smI/AAAAAAAAD_o/unfbx27W2x4X4z7mZktLFP_dvuc_0CHNACLcB/s1600/layout1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sw3fgyWBN7E/VzsxHAn-smI/AAAAAAAAD_o/unfbx27W2x4X4z7mZktLFP_dvuc_0CHNACLcB/s320/layout1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I then tried a different approach. This design was more successful than the previous as the type looks a lot more spread out and it flows a lot better, however it could definitely still use some work. I'm also not a fan of the name of the brand in this position as I think it looks cluttered and too similar to Smart Water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1y19PsKmqvU/VzsxHFQZkCI/AAAAAAAAD_s/Gya9d8y5Pi8ux1xeBFj-pnztHE5oG1rlQCLcB/s1600/layout2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1y19PsKmqvU/VzsxHFQZkCI/AAAAAAAAD_s/Gya9d8y5Pi8ux1xeBFj-pnztHE5oG1rlQCLcB/s320/layout2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the next design. Again, there is far too much negative space in the middle of the design, however I really like the logo design being very miniature, I think it adds some mystery to the design.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EBLAjAU0iDc/VzsxHEeiViI/AAAAAAAAD_w/vhZyLCR7c28qImxF5dFdV9D2w0Y_Ing_ACLcB/s1600/layout3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EBLAjAU0iDc/VzsxHEeiViI/AAAAAAAAD_w/vhZyLCR7c28qImxF5dFdV9D2w0Y_Ing_ACLcB/s320/layout3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried to reposition the logo and centre the type, however I think I definitely prefer the type left alligned as it looks a lot more modernist, something I am aiming for in this particular project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HOG14oSj9Ug/VzsxHbKV1iI/AAAAAAAAD_0/nFjqv-_xqhQ7YfHF8xHopF9Tmy5a1dteQCLcB/s1600/layout4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HOG14oSj9Ug/VzsxHbKV1iI/AAAAAAAAD_0/nFjqv-_xqhQ7YfHF8xHopF9Tmy5a1dteQCLcB/s320/layout4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I then tried to add the smoothies name in a different way. I think this is a lot more successful than previous attempts. I think both the logo design and the name of the brand stand out a lot more, and the use of negative space is a lot more successful, however there is still too much.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XxsKnj5zE9E/VzsxHgOVSVI/AAAAAAAAD_4/Yo--ejY6BpAIqbY9A3A1bCmzfxwmOMLsACLcB/s1600/layout5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XxsKnj5zE9E/VzsxHgOVSVI/AAAAAAAAD_4/Yo--ejY6BpAIqbY9A3A1bCmzfxwmOMLsACLcB/s320/layout5.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I then rearranged the body copy and also added a recycle label that would go on the packaging. I think that this is definitely the most successful design that I have come up with thus far, however I am going to ask for some feedback from my peers when I am next at university. In this session, I will also ask about the colour scheme.<br />

I thought it would be useful to decide which typeface to use for my project now, as it will keep the rest of my project consistent. I looked at lots of different typefaces and experimented with which typeface went with the logo design best. Serif typefaces didn't work too successfully, as they were weighted very differently, however sans serif typefaces seemed to work better due to the letterform 'O' being a constant weight, similar to the logo design. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The typefaces that worked best were Gill Sans and Futura. I have decided to use Futura through-out my project as it is my favourite typeface and it's very geometrical. It uses basic geometry as a framework. This works successfully with my logo design as the logo design is also based on measurements and shapes. Both the logo design and Futura are well balanced together.</div>

To do this, I went to the shop and looked at different sized and shaped bottles. The bottles below are for Asya Seed Drinks. The drinks are a wide range of different flavours and each has seeds inside. They're a very odd drink, and I believe this is why the bottles are glass and see through, as the actual content is aimed at a very particular market, as a lot of people wouldn't like the texture of the drink.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GcEWMCVNRI8/VzsI97REhUI/AAAAAAAAD_E/UApTgdgpn_cZ7gXW-UTYOxnWrmd9793lACLcB/s1600/IMG_5018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GcEWMCVNRI8/VzsI97REhUI/AAAAAAAAD_E/UApTgdgpn_cZ7gXW-UTYOxnWrmd9793lACLcB/s320/IMG_5018.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next bottle I looked at was Asya's Aloe Vera range. Similarly to the previous, the texture of the drink is very odd, however this bottle isn't see through, which is something I didn't really expect as it's a very weird texture and it would be nice to see what the drink looks like before purchasing. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then started looking at cans that contain fruit juice. Although the branding of these cans isn't great and comes across as a value range, the fact that the juice is in cans is quite smart. It saves on plastic wastage and would keep the drink cooler for longer. The main reasons I couldn't brand my own smoothie packaging this way is because, firstly, I want the contents to be visible through the packaging, and secondly, because most people wouldn't drink a whole smoothie straight away. Personally, I like to take my time when drinking a smoothie and really savour the taste. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then looked at water bottles, as I thought this would be the only way I could really portray my packaging design without using glass bottles, which would be very expensive. I have decided to base my own packing around the Smart Water bottle. I chose this bottle as it's the most clean, circular bottle that I came across on my search and the circular design represents my logo very well.</div>
